COMPONENTS OF THE ENERGY WEB

Solar and photovoltaic.

Photovoltaic is the generation of voltage by a material that is exposed to light. This technology has several benefits not matched by other generation sources: Modularity — the ability to be installed in a wide range of sizes; Short Lead Time — both in design and installation; Low Operating Costs — Few moving parts and solid state design; Suitability for Distributed Siting — from rooftop to special PV-windows, silent PV sites can be more strategically placed; Low Environmental Impact — no emissions, easy recylability. (Smeloff, E. and Asmus, P., 1997 Reinventing Electric Utilities, Island Press, p. 63-64.)

Solar panels dedicated to heat exchange, while not directly feeding the grid, contribute to overall demand reduction.
